Prop 8 passed and that pisses me off

As most of you know (or may not know) I am gay. Some of my earlier followers have known this since the begining. I love my wife with all my heart. I do not throw the fact that I am gay in anyones face. I don't even discuss my political view with others. My opinions are my own. But what really bursts my bubble are when people choose to try and take my freedoms as a gay person away. It just irks me that Prop 8 in California did not pass. I mean what are people so afraid of? We don't judge hetrosexuals, so why should we be judged? Isn't the USA supposed to be a free country? That's what I have always been taught. Sorry if I am on my soapbox. Really I am. I know that most people don't approve of my lifestyle. And for that I apologize if you are reading this and are grossed out. But I just hate to hold my tounge this time around. This is something I am feeling very very strongly about. And now I decided to do a YouTube search on the videos about Prop 8 and just am sickened! But I am a fan of Ellen and I think that she describes it best on the Jay Leno show.....

I guess I am just confused as to why our country is so damn scared of us gay people getting married? Why shouldn't we be afforded the same rights as everyone else? I mean think this... even if you are against same sex marriage, if something (God forbid) happens to my wife where does that leave me? I have NO say and no rights to anything after she passes on. I could be banned from being with her in the hospital, I could be out on the streets, I couldn't take care of anything. And that saddens me. I would want her to be my descision maker if something should happen to me. But we don't have that right becuz we can't marry. And that is sad! This country was founded on the basis of ALL CREATED EQUAL! UGH!!!!! Sorry I am ending my soapbox now. Just remember though, I am for gay marriage and I love my wife dearly. (though leagally she isn't my wife) I hope that some day it can be passed that I can be afforded the same rights as everyone else.

I'm with you gal! I think it should be the individual's business who they'd like to marry, be that same sex or not. To me its a problem of the separation of church and state issue, and we should stay out of it. Who does it hurt if two women are married? or two men? NOTHING!!! Wake up people, its the 21st century, we're more grown up than this!!!

I love the arguement that "Marriage is between one man and one woman". LOL It's a word people. The union is a spiritual thing that no human agency can give or take away. So whether they choose to recognize a Marriage or not is just a matter of keeping your eyes open or burying your head in the sand. As for all the legal rights, I don't understand why the Gov is being stupid. When two "People" form a union they should have the same rights as anyone else, end of story.

Girl, I hear you. I am so ticked. I just don't get it. Love is love, and no one can tell you who to love. I think it's just awful. No one voted when I got married and I don't feel the need to tell other people who they can marry. We had such an awesome day yesterday electing the first black president and then this... I just don't get it.

ps love your blog!

I don't know you, but I'm pissed too - my mom is gay and she and her gf raised me right along side my dad and his gf - I loved it and I frankly am much more well adjusted then the people who's parents were married or even straight for that matter! I also think that because I don't force my religion of shut the fuck up and love each other - they should force the religion of I'm closed minded and the bible says gay marriage is a sin...oh wait - so is divorce...shit they're all screwed! Sorry for the rant, but I agree!

I'm not gay or black- but by my reactions on Tuesday- you would have guessed I was both! Just call me Gloria Steinem- I'm such a liberal and I agree completely.

I thought of you and many of my other gay/lesbian friends when I saw the proposition passed.

I was trying to think of some actual current legal solutions to your hospital/death dilemmas but honestly right now I can't think of much or my head will explode! You need some legal documents, and once I think of what might help in the event something happens to either of you I will let you know. ;)

Yep, it is a bummer...especially since we were going to go to CA and get married in 2009. Yeah, I know. Now I have to go to Boston again! ;)

It's so sad - really that 2 people regardless can't marry because our government feels the need to control how we live. We made history the other day with our 1st black president - let's hope these stupid laws can be changed ..I mean really why should they tell us who we can & can't marry It's BS really! Love is Love & they can't take that away!
